Belly button shape after tummy tuck surgery

Belly button (umbilical) shape is critical for an excellent cosmetic result after tummy tuck surgery. When I speak with patients about the features of a youthful looking abdomen, I always point out how critical it is to get the belly button reconstructed in the most youthful way possible. The hallmarks of a youthful belly button include a small amount of skin 'hooding' above the umbilical depression and a 'washout' region along the bottom portion of the belly button. This particular belly button shape looks very youthful and fit. Other features of a nice tummy tuck result include a well positioned scar low on the pelvis, some lifting of the skin from the front of the thighs, lifting of the mons area, and correction of abdominal skin laxity.
